DESCRIPTION:City Awakes events encourage young professionals to engage civically and deepen their community roots by attending forums with elected officials and influential policy leaders.\n\n\n\nJoin us for an engaging roundtable event where you'll have the opportunity to meet Undersecretary Nikko Mendoza of the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC).. This intimate discussion will offer an insightful look into her journey of civic engagement and the impactful work she is doing to shape the future of Massachusetts. Don't miss this chance to gain valuable perspectives and connect directly with a key leader driving change in our state.\n\n \n\nAttendees will have the opportunity to attend the Government Affairs Forum (GAF) featuring Governor Healey right after the discussion. Please note that seats are not guaranteed at the Governor's address\; we will do our best to assign you a seat but there may only be standing room available due to the capacity of the venue. \n\n\n\nTo be eligible for this opportunity\, attendees must fit the following criteria: \n\n\n	\n	Must be between 20-30 years of age. \n	\n	\n	Must be a resident of Boston or work in the Greater Boston area. \n	\n\n\n\n\nTickets are limited to one per person and are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. As Undersecretary and Chief of Staff at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC)\, Nikko oversees the daily operation of a new Cabinet-level secretariat established by Governor Maura Healey to create more homes and lower housing costs for all residents of the Commonwealth. Her portfolio includes leading strategic initiatives and managing a team charged with policy development and engagement with external stakeholders to move the Healey-Driscoll housing agenda forward.\n\n \n\nIn her prior role as State Director for U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren\, Nikko led the Senator's work in Massachusetts\, including constituent services\, community relations\, communications and political operation. She previously served as Communications Director for 1199SEIU Massachusetts where she developed and executed a comprehensive communications strategy for a labor union that represents nearly 80\,000 healthcare workers. Prior to that\, she was Vice President of External Affairs at Boston 2024\, a nonprofit organization that spearheaded the effort to bring the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games to Boston. In addition\, Nikko held several roles in the offices of Governor Deval Patrick and the late Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino and worked on numerous political campaigns at the municipal\, state and federal levels.\n\n \n\nBorn in the Philippines and raised in New Jersey\, Nikko lives in Roslindale and serves on the Board of Directors of the Environmental League of Massachusetts. She was named one of the 150 Most Influential Bostonians of 2023 by Boston Magazine.
