Senate President Robert Travaglini Commonwealth of Massachusetts Elected to serve as Senate President in 2003, Robert Travaglini is a champion for issues that affect the competitiveness of Massachusetts. He has been instrumental in helping to deliver a balanced and timely budget without raising taxes and is currently fighting for health care reform and policies that facilitate embryonic stem cell research. A proven leader on Beacon Hill, President Travaglini was first elected to the state senate in 1992. He has served in several key leadership roles, including senate majority whip, senate chair of the Joint Committee on Local Affairs, senate chair of the Joint Committee on Commerce and Labor, and senate vice-chair of Ways and Means. Prior to being elected to the senate, President Travaglini served 10 years as a Boston City Councilor, where he earned a reputation as a strong advocate for neighborhoods and for those he represents.
