Treasurer Timothy Cahill Commonwealth of Massachusetts Since assuming the office of Massachusetts State Treasurer in January 2003, Timothy Cahill has been strongly focused on tackling the Commonwealth's fiscal challenges. Last year, his second in office, Treasurer Cahill led the return of $912 million of state lottery assistance to local cities and towns, the largest amount ever generated by Massachusetts. In addition, he has reallocated assets of the state's pension fund, which resulted in returns of more than $6 billion in 2003 and has executed eight bond refundings that represent a long-term savings to taxpayers of more than $350 million. An accomplished businessman and published author, Treasurer Cahill began his career in public service as a Quincy City Councilor, a position he held from 1987 to 2003. He also served as Norfolk County Treasurer from 1997-2002.
