United States Representative Niki Tsongas Congresswoman Niki Tsongas is nearing the end of her first term in the United States House of Representatives. The first woman elected to Congress from the state of Massachusetts in 25 years, Tsongas has deep roots in the state’s fifth district and has dedicated years of public service to the region. She currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Budget Committee where she works to guarantee that active servicemen and women are provided with necessary equipment and protection while focusing on solutions for the devastating deficits and debt that have troubled the nation over the last eight years. Prior to her work in Congress, Tsongas served as the dean of external affairs at Middlesex Community College, the largest community college in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In addition to elevating the school’s profile, she created a department to raise money for the public institution and engage the community. Tsongas earned her bachelors degree from Smith College and her law degree from Boston University.
