Lynch has been a major advocate for the Greater Boston region. Currently representing the 9th district of the Commonwealth, Congressmen Lynch has worked for important transportation and infrastructure improvements that are critical to the business community, including the completion of the Silver Line and the development of the South Boston waterfront. Elected to the United States Congress in 2001, Lynch is a member of the Committee on Financial Services, the Committee on Government Reform, and is the ranking Democrat on the newly-created Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs, which oversees rule changes in agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission. His career in government began in 1994, when he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Fourteen months later, he was elected to the Massachusetts Senate, where he served as the chair of the Joint Committee on Commerce and Labor. Lynch earned a bachelor's degree from the Wentworth Institute of Technology, a law degree from Boston College Law School, and a master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
