House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi Commonwealth of Massachusetts Salvatore DiMasi has been a strong voice of leadership on Beacon Hill since his election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1978, representing the 3rd Suffolk District. In September 2004, he was elected Speaker of the House by his colleagues in the legislature. Throughout his tenure in public office, DiMasi has been instrumental in creating policies to ensure the commonwealth's fiscal stability, create new jobs, and drive economic growth. Prior to being elected Speaker, DiMasi served as Senate Majority Leader from 2001 to 2004, as Majority Whip in 2001, and as Assistant Majority Whip from 1996 to 2001. He is currently a member of the Special Task Force on Foreign Trade, and has served as House Chair on several committees, including the committee on banks and banking, the committee on the judiciary, and the committee on criminal justice.
