In his recent State of the Commonwealth address, Romney proposed a $200 million reserve fund that would enable Massachusetts to expand health care access without taxing employers. He also renewed his support for a streamlined permitting process that would encourage business to expand here, a lower unemployment insurance rate that would encourage businesses to create more jobs, and community incentives to increase the housing supply so the state can recruit and retain talented workers. Romney came to the State House with a distinct understanding of the region's business community. He served as CEO of Bain & Company, Inc., as well as founder of Bain Capital, one of the nation's most successful venture capital and investment companies. Immediately prior to taking office, Romney took over the troubled Salt Lake Olympic Committee, where he initiated a stunning turnaround to overcome a $379 million operational deficit.
