An Overview of Clean Energy Options for Massachusetts and What They Mean for Massachusetts Ratepayers
Time/Date: Wednesday, December 13, 2017 11:30 am to 1:15 pm Cost: Free, but pre-registration required
In 2016, Governor Baker signed “An Act Relative to Energy Diversity” which required Massachusetts investor owned utilities (i.e. Eversource, National Grid and Unitil) to enter into two types of competitive long-term contracts to bring clean and renewable power to Massachusetts: one for clean energy (primarily large-scale hydropower and renewables such as wind and solar) and one exclusively for offshore wind. At full build these projects will represent nearly 40% of the state’s energy load.
Nearly 50 bids were received for the recent clean energy solicitation (known as Section 83D bids), far more than needed to reach the legislation’s goal of 1200 MW. The bids for offshore wind (known as Section 83C bids) are due in late December. A decision on the winning clean energy bid is expected soon.
This luncheon brown bag webinar will give listeners an overview of the major clean energy bids (Section 83D). You’ll be hearing from company representatives, each of whom, if chosen, is looking to change the way Massachusetts consumers use energy.
These projects represent a wide diversity of project type (wind – onshore and offshore, hydropower, battery storage or a combination), country of origin (Canada, US), proposed route (Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, sub-sea direct to Massachusetts) and potential benefits and costs to Massachusetts. What does all this mean to you as a ratepayer? To find out, REGISTER HERE to participate in this complimentary Brown Bag Webinar
