Janet Marie SmithVice President, Planning & DevelopmentThe Boston Red Sox Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse Inc. ''Saving Fenway: Transformation of the Oldest Park in the Major Leagues'' Janet Marie Smith is the vice president of planning & development for the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore-based Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse. The woman responsible for monster seats, the right field roof deck, and other Fenway Park improvements, Smith oversees the historic park's renovation with concern for urban development and special expertise in ball fields. Her previous experience includes the planning of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the transformation of Atlanta's Olympic Park into the new home of the Atlanta Braves, Turner Field, and the construction of the Phillips Arena, home of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and NHL's Atlanta Thrashers. Smith has also excelled in urban development projects. Under her guidance, many of downtown Baltimore's abandoned or under-utilized neighborhoods have gained a second life, bringing needed offices, restaurants, retail, housing, and open space to a waterfront once dominated by the remnants of industry. Smith also directed redevelopment of Pershing Square in Los Angeles, and was coordinator of architecture and design for Manhattan's Battery City Park. Smith holds a B.A. form Mississippi State University and an M.A. from City College of New York.
