Position Summary The Senior Network Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for supporting and administering the LAN & WAN infrastructure (Cisco, Checkpoint, etc.) within the corporate office, two co-located data centers, and the AWS cloud. This position also provides network technical support for projects and operational processes as required to ensure the productivity and effectiveness of the Bank’s network infrastructure. This role works closely with all technology teams and will partner with the Principal Network Engineer to ensure day-to-day support of the network environment is accomplished effectively. This role requires a self-starter with excellent planning and organizational skills who exercises independent judgment while participating in various complex and sometimes concurrent projects from inception through completion. Effectively fulfilling this position requires an individual to be a self-starter with excellent planning, organizational and communication skills who exercises independent judgment with little supervision, while participating in various complex and sometimes concurrent projects from inception through completion. The focus of this role will be about 30% on projects and 70% day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. The ability to grow into a network architectural/lead role is possible over time. Demonstrating abilities to effectively collaborate and communicate in a hybrid environment and across various stakeholders, take accountability, and the desire to aim high, while positively engaging and contributing within a team environment are essential to support Bank Technology’s vision; “Enabling the Bank’s mission by delivering agile, secure, cost-efficient information technology solutions.” This position is classified as sensitive and is subject to a credit check. This role will have a hybrid work schedule in our Boston office in accordance with the Bank’s Hybrid Work Program. More time will be expected in the office to support onboarding initially. Specific Responsibilities · Accountable for the daily administration, monitoring, maintenance, and support of the LAN & WAN environment, troubleshooting hardware and software issues within the physical office, two co-located datacenters and the AWS cloud. · Monitor the day-to-day work requests and incident (break/fix) trouble tickets. · Manage vendor relationships, contracts, invoicing and renewal processes for the networking environment, equipment, and applications. · Responsible for administering the tools and services required to effectively manage and monitor the data and voice communication systems. · Partner with User Support (help desk) to handle escalated calls and provide training for tasks that may be appropriately handled at the User Support level. · Participate in technology projects assuming the role of subject matter expert for network related aspects of the project. · Ensure detailed inventories of network equipment are accurate within the Bank’s ServiceNow CMDB. · Participate in regularly scheduled disaster recovery exercises and occasional on-site support at the Bank’s data centers located in the metro-Boston area. · Provide 24x7 on-call support when necessary and carry a bank-issued phone to respond to off-hour support issues. · Other duties, as assigned. Knowledge/Skills · Strong network maintenance and support background in a Cisco and/or AWS cloud environment. · Demonstrated ability to work within the AWS cloud environment and a willingness to build upon this foundation. · Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills for complex problem resolution as well as excellent organizational and prioritization skills. · Cogent technical documentation skills. · Effectively create technical solutions from business requirements. · Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual contributor with minimal supervision. · A high level of responsiveness to the customer to build trust and credibility. · Must have excellent interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within technical and non-technical teams, adapting communication and presentation style for the intended audience. · Basic familiarity or a willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in support of an agile and DevOps methodology.
