The Disability Law Center (DLC) is the Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agency for Massachusetts. DLC is a private, non-profit organization responsible for providing protection and advocacy for the rights of Massachusetts residents with disabilities. DLC receives federal, state and private funding but is not part of the state or federal government. As the P&A, federal law provides DLC extensive access authority.Our Mission: To provide legal advocacy on disability issues that promote the fundamental rights of all people with disabilities to participate fully and equally in the social and economic life of Massachusetts.Commitment to Respect, Inclusion, and an Intersectional Approach: DLC is committed to protecting the civil and human rights of ALL persons with disabilities through zealous advocacy and representation. Our work is firmly rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. The guiding principles for DLC’s advocacy are to promote and protect inclusion, independence, integration, and equal opportunity.
Barbara currently serves as the Executive Director at the Disability Law Center. She previously served in both the House and Senate of the MA State Legislature. Her Government Affairs experience includes work for the State Treasurer's Office, The Arc of MA, Partners In Health and as the owner of a small lobbying shop.
